The Historic Victory

After two years in WWE and two earlier tries against Reigns, the “American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes finally did it. With Jimmy Uso, Seth Rollins, and WWE legends The Undertaker and John Cena’s help, Rhodes pulled off a big win. He used a move called the Cross Rhodes three times to pin the “Tribal Chief” Reigns. This victory stopped Reigns’ 1,316-day reign as a world champion, making it the fourth-longest in WWE history.

A Lifelong Dream

For 38-year-old Rhodes, this win meant everything. It wasn’t just about making history in wrestling, but it fulfilled a dream that ran deep in his family. Surprisingly, no one from the Rhodes family had ever become a WWE world champion before. Even his father, the iconic “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, had a shot at the title taken away back in 1977. He defeated “Superstar” Billy Graham, but the championship was stripped because of a countout. So, for Cody Rhodes, this victory carried extra special meaning, marking a significant moment in his family’s legacy.

The Journey

Rhodes had quite a journey to this big moment. He left AEW and came back to WWE in 2022. Then, he got into a serious fight with Reigns and his crew, The Bloodline. WrestleMania 40 kicked off with something special: Cody’s wife, Brandi, walked in with him for a cool entrance. Cody wore a skull mask, showing things were going to be different this time. Brandi encouraged him to “finish the story.” It was a dramatic start to what turned out to be a huge night for Cody Rhodes.

The Rock’s Influence

At last year’s WrestleMania, Reigns had defeated Rhodes with a Samoan Spike, thanks to cousin Solo Sikoa. On Night 1 of this year’s event, Rhodes suffered another setback, when The Rock pinned him after a Rock Bottom and a People’s Elbow. However, The Rock couldn’t save Reigns this time. Rhodes’ exceptional trilogy with Brock Lesnar earned him a Royal Rumble win, putting him back in the title picture.

Fan Revolt and Redemption

Rhodes’ championship opportunity seemed delayed when he conceded a match with Reigns to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Yet, fans revolted on social media, demanding Cody’s inclusion. Their rallying cry, #WeWantCody, echoed in arenas, leading to this historic showdown. Now, Cody Rhodes stands tall as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, steering WWE into a new era.
