Castlevania Nocturne draws its inspiration from Konami’s video game series, Castlevania. The story centers around the Belmont family, a lineage of vampire hunters battling the sinister Dracula and his minions. Infused with Gothic horror and European folklore, the series features an array of monsters, magic, and weaponry.

This show is a spin-off of the acclaimed Castlevania animated series, which ran for four seasons on Netflix and garnered praise for its animation, storytelling, and voice acting. It is adapted from the 1993 game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and its sequel, Symphony of the Night, widely regarded as some of the franchise’s finest entries.

Netflix released the Castlevania Nocturne Trailer on September 19, 2023, as part of its Tudum event. The trailer showcases the stunning animation and action scenes of the series, as well as introducing some of the main characters and villains.

Meet the talented folks behind Castlevania Nocturne! Clive Bradley, a British writer, and producer known for his work on shows like The Last Kingdom, Trapped, and The Frankenstein Chronicles, joins forces with Kevin Kolde, an American producer with a track record that includes the Castlevania animated series from the very beginning, as well as projects like Adventure Time, Bee and Puppycat, and Bravest Warriors.

The animation magic is brought to life by Powerhouse Animation Studios, the same creative force behind the original Castlevania series. And for guidance, we have directors Sam Deats and Adam Deats, who also helmed several episodes of the previous show.

Castlevania Nocturne Release Date is set for September 28, 2023, with 8 episodes, each running approximately 25 minutes. It will be available in multiple languages worldwide. You can get an early peek at the first three episodes by tuning in to Netflix’s Drop 1 on September 27, at 9 a.m. PT / 12 noon ET / 5 p.m. BST.

Castlevania Nocturne Plot

In 1792, amidst the French Revolution’s turmoil, a hidden danger emerges: a vampire secret society plotting to bring eternal night by a dark ritual, led by Erzsebet Bathory, a notorious vampire queen.

To stop her, unlikely heroes unite Richter Belmont, a descendant of vampire hunters; Maria Renard, a young revolutionary and magic user; Annette, a sorceress, and former slave; Edouard, a musician and friend; and Tera, a mentor and mother figure. They’ll face allies and enemies, including Olrox, a vampire lord with ties to Richter; Tera’s former flame, now a vampire hunter; and a mysterious man in a red cloak.

Can they halt Erzsebet and her minions in time? Uncover their pasts and destinies? Survive the vampire revolution?
